The junior high boys and girls cross country teams competed in the Delaware County Tournament last night where the boys were defeated by Selma to end up in second place. The girls placed 4th overall beating Cowan and Selma.

Noah Colvin was third overall in the County with a time of 11:35. Neck and neck behind him were teammates Bryce Hammerlund and Corin Withers who placed 6th and 7th just two seconds apart. Scoring fourth place team points for the first time was Hayden Johnson who placed 9th overall and the last scorer for the Broncos was Bryson Sigler who placed 24th. The boys fell to Selma by just 6 points. Unfortunately, the team was also missing two of their key scorers due to injury and one being ineligible as a fifth grader to compete in the county tournament. The boys will have a chance to redeem themselves on Saturday at their last meet, the Conference Invitational, where they will see Selma again.

The girls were lead by 8th grader Abi Covert who set a new personal record for herself with a time of 13:49 and placed 6th overall. The next runner for Daleville was Makenna Corbin who also set a new personal record time of 14:21. She finished 10th place overall and had to run the last part of the race with only one shoe. She didn’t let that stop her from having her best race of the season, though. The next two Lady Broncos were Macy Kirkpatrick and Addi Gothrup in 11th and 13th place. The final scorer for the ladies was Lillianne Tooley scoring points for the first time in 31st place.

Overall, these athletes had a great race. The following Broncos all set personal best times last night: Abi Covert, Makenna Corbin, Lillianne Tooley, Kaylee Cantrell, Hayden Johnson, Brayden Suit, Hunter Gunn, and Cory Jones. Great job to all of the Daleville runners and good luck at the Conference meet on Saturday!
